Drywood termites are insects that build their colonies inside sound, dry wood. Members of this termite species infest buildings, causing destruction and distress, eating away at the cellulose in wood furniture, cabinets, books, loose paperwork, and even entire structures.

By the time you realize you have Drywood termites in your home, the colony may be well-established, which means it is likely time to fumigate your home or commercial building. Therefore, it is important that you find a pest control company you trust to deliver results using safe procedures. At Apex Pest Control, we’ve provided Florida homeowners with Safe, Trusted Pest Solutions since 1985.

At Apex Pest Control, our own team members complete all of our fumigation projects. Our technicians have advanced training from the University of Florida’s School of Structural Fumigation. As one of only 120 licensed fumigation firms in Florida, we provide full support through the entire termite fumigation process, from initial inspection to final walk-through.

Our Termite Fumigation Process

During the fumigation process, the infested structure is filled with sulfuryl fluoride gas, which circulates through the home and inside infested wood structures, where it kills the termites that breathe it. We use the sulfuryl fluoride gas Vikane, which is made in the United States. Vikane is non-corrosive and non-flammable, and it leaves no residue.

When you trust us with your home’s termite fumigation, our technicians follow a methodology used for nearly 100 years. After helping you prepare your home for fumigation, we’ll cover the structure with tent-like tarps to keep the Vikane contained. We then introduce the proper amount of Vikane to effectively kill all termites. Termite fumigation generally takes 48-72 hours to complete.

After the planned fumigation treatment is finished and the tarps removed, your Apex technician will enter the building to open windows and doors and begin the 6-8 hour aeration process. After that time the technician will reenter and use a high-quality, state certified gas analyzer to confirm that it’s safe for you to return.

The gas used in termite fumigation effectively kills termites, as well as other insects such as bed bugs, roaches, ants, silverfish, pantry pests, spiders, and rodents.

Alternative Termite Fumigation Methods

Apex also uses several alternate termite fumigation processes to make treatment as easy as possible. These solutions include a tape and seal method and a spot treatment method.

Our tape and seal method of termite fumigation process uses tape and plastic sheeting to seal the building, instead of a tent. It’s appropriate for naturally well-sealed buildings or buildings with extensive vines attached or landscaping that could be damaged by the sulphuryl fluoride.

Spot treatments, a service that involves no fumigation, works best when treating highly localized termite colonies, like those that occur in furniture or wooden cabinetry. During spot treatments, we inject a foam insecticide into the termite galleries of the infested wood. The foam expands inside to eradicate the termites.
